Ref 1076&1077.- Watercolor / Layering technique with modeling paste & Watercolor
This time Project proposal involves modeling paste from which you can achieve a variety of effects and expressions in your paintings, This molding paste, which dries to a hard yet flexible opaque film, is excellent for building surfaces and creating textures. When used in conjunction with your favorite  colors, this paste alters your paint's working properties and opens up new creative possibilities.

This is the final result of this particular process

Material needed;
Modeling paste (there are many brands available at the Art store
Round and fan brushes
color pencils
watercolor set & permanent White gouache
artist varnish
Stardream color paper and/or any other thick watercolor paper

Process order >>>>/ color pencil / modeling paste / watercolor / modeling paste / watercolor  / varnish  / watercolor / >>>>

1.-  You need a heavy paper > 300lb which can absorb more water and rarely needs stretching or a resistant one like Stardream colored paper 105 Lb which is the one I used for this purpose
I start by making the composition with color pencils, but you can use just graphite paper the idea is that pecil color won´t dissolve and will remain as an under layering guide for next steps

2.- Now the modeling paste application all over the paper with a big spatula, in order to créate a minimal coat over it, as you can see modeling paste is in some way transparent and the drawing below will remain as main features guidance

3.- Wait for complete dry and with a fan brush I start to conform sand colors throwing the paint at the foreground and lifting up paint dots with an absorbent paper to integrate in accordance perspective

4.- The watercolor used between this layering and to reinforce pencil guidance needs to be deep in saturation and tone because will be the shadowing of your painting, also in order to créate out of focus condition I spray wáter before paint is completely dry to make some blurred condition and to integrate tones

5.- Wait for dry, and repeat the modeling paste addition .- this time just all over the sea surface , mountains and sky are Ok withou it.- Once is dry you´ll see the transparency you can get with this methodology, now take advantage to make some waves with modeling paste and the spatula and give texturization you need  to avoid any roughness wet your fingers and pass over the sea side to make it more smooth before modeling paste be completely dry

6.- Watercoloring accordingly enphatize the color waves the mountain background and color perspective taking in account where lightest places be needed for ligth reflection
7.- Art varnish is now applied once everyting is rigth  but just in the sea surface
8.- It is better (by experiences) to dry in a warm place (under the sun or a warm lamp so the varnish will spread and become smooth at the surface
9.- Now use with a fine brush the permanent White color of gouache to make some lines above the sea surfaces, these will break due the varnish below (non compatible) but will be the desired effect of ligth reflections

10.- wait to dry and cut having the following result
(Note I put my signature before varnish application)
