Ref 1098.- Watercolor // Damp Crinkling Technique

Technic.- While paper is damp enough to prevent straight cracks, crumble the paper to obtain a web of small random lines on it
This is my result regarding this technic;

Some prior notes; Is the understanding, that you can only crinkle a paper which is sufficiently flexible and resilent to withstand the process and still be effectively used afterwards. Masa papers are ideally suited for this technique but I did in cold press paper of 190 gr without any particular issue.

1st Step.- The wetter the paper the softer the image, there are 2 ways to do this, the amount of the pigment carried by your brush will influence the image, wet just the paper first and then scrumble it or add the pigment wet on wet first and then scrumble it, I chose the 2nd idea.- so in a wet on wet condition I added the pigment to prepare just my underpainting texture

As I want to make a diffuse meadow ; .- clear áreas above and dark áreas below;

2nd Step.- When you determine colors proceed to damp crinkling wet paper on both sides with a sprayer, wait until no pools of wáter can be seen on the surface and the paper feels quite limp and soft before attempt to crinkle, what you hope to achieve is a web of small lines rather tan long folds. crumple the paper do not compress it into a tigth ball, bring all 4 borders inward gradually squeezing int a soft sphere, then carefully peel this ball open.- once the paper has been returned to its shape, evaluate if need more crackling

3rd Step; As this is my first exercise, the result didn´t show the color pigmentation I expected so instead to repeat same step, I rather paint over the folds of the dry paper with a sponge brush , the composition should be conceived in a very broad outline, allowing for the possibility of surprise

Process undergoing, wet on fold dry paper

4th Step.- I let it dry one day between heavty weigth, so the flat paper has been recovery in some way

5th Step Now is time for creativity and taking advantage of sone dark folds, I painted the stems of the branches, and strat to define spots accordingly

6th Step Final details and negative color definition, integrating them with the help of and absorbent paper

          "Many eyes go through the meadow, but few see the flower on it"
